flamingthoughtsWe burned metals in science today.
our safety goggles made us look like flies
and our aprons made us look like we were doing something dangerous
and when the boy in the corner put his hood over his head
and ignited the lighter he was holding,
we looked suicidal.
Copper made the vibrant colors.
Whirling greens and blues;
brighter than a toddlers night light.
The fire looked soft and cold
almost as if you could stick your hand in it
and turn it around letting each flame dance on your finger tips.
While my classmates moved around
I thought about how that would feel.
If it would burn my skin pretty and leave my hand cold
or burn with an ache and leave my fingers mangled.
I thought about all the copper wire in the walls
and how pretty it would look for the room to burn
the building burn
the world to burn:
everything a bright green and blue.
Flames dancing on everyones finger tips.
